Discipline, Personal Accountability, and Action – And the Dramatic Effect These 3 Things Can Have On Your Life and Your MLM Business…

April 29, 2010

discipline_head_photoI probably don’t have to tell you that running a home business is heavy duty stuff. Seeing success with a home business, especially one as grueling as an MLM business, is even tougher.

One of the biggest reasons that people fail so often with home businesses is that they actually never get the fact that they work for themselves. It’s hard to get into the mindset of being your own boss for most people… especially if they’ve been in a working environment where they’ve had a boss looking over their shoulders.

Most people aren’t used to NOT having someone to answer to, or to get acceptance from.

Let’s face it, the amount of time that most employees waste is staggering. Most employers get maybe 4 hours of productivity in a 8 hour day out of their workers…if that much. And the employee wasting their time really doesn’t care because it’s no skin off their back. Basically they’re doing time…almost as if in prison.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule. But for the most part, the thing that’s truly missing for people when they enter into their own home business, be it MLM or otherwise is PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY!

You see when you run your home business, whether it’s part-time or full-time, it’s up to nobody but YOU to turn that business into a success. If you don’t do what needs to be done then your MLM business will not succeed. Now the amazing part is that people will pretend their running a home business by doing busy work…and of course no checks will come in because they haven’t taken any action that leads to a check (like generating leads, talking to prospects, etc).

For instance someone might learn the compensation plan top to bottom. But what the heck good is that if you’ve got nobody to explain it to. Some people will learn every little detail about the company products…but yet they show them to nobody.

Worse yet, even when they see that there are no checks coming in they don’t change anything. They usually end up quitting and bad mouthing the MLM business industry.

All this is unnecessary! What it really takes is personal accountability. It’s an understanding of the basic principals of business, that nothing happens until goods and services are exchanged. And to do that it takes a customer, and to get a customer it takes marketing.

And more importantly to get any of this it takes ACTION!

Robert Ringer, the great SUCCESS guru and author, aptly named one of his latest books “Nothing Happens Until Something Moves”. This is absolutely right on the money.

But let me empathize with you for one second. Here’s the deal…if you’ve essentially been raised in the 9 to 5 making-someone-else-rich environment then you don’t know how to have personal accountability.

You have no history of having discipline.

Don’t beat yourself up over this. Just start taking the steps to fix it. The first thing to do is to recognize that this is a problem for you.

The next step is to get it securely in your mind that YOU must not only take ACTION each and everyday, but you must take the right action! If you don’t know what the right action is for your MLM business then it’s your job to find out. Nobody is going to come out of the woodwork and tell you, because frankly nobody cares about your business as much as you do…or should. So you have to take initiative and find out what you should be doing every single day.

There are ways to find these things out available all over the place. One of the first places to look with your MLM home business is to your upline sponsor. They should have a system in place in fact. Of course they aren’t going to work the system for you. That’s up to you. But they will help, if you’ll hold yourself accountable enough to ensure that you ask for that help, and have the discipline to use what they tell you consistently.

Your home business is like a newborn child. Once that child is out into the world it’s your duty to feed it, and take care of it. This doesn’t mean reading books on how to take care of a baby, it means actually taking care of this helpless little person or it will starve and I’m sorry but die!

Your MLM business is the same way. You took on the responsibility, now you must start taking the actions TODAY that is going to not only help keep your business alive, but also make that MLM business thrive!
