I absolutely love Japan, the people, the culture, and certainly the food. I’ve had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back already.

A lot of people don’t understand why sponsoring and “recruiting” has to be a part of the network marketing business and what’s so important about doing it.

It’s pretty much all about just what it’s called, building a network. But it’s not just any network… a network of people marketing a business where you get a percentage from their efforts.

Now you’re probably wondering – if my 2 decades experience steers me correctly – “Now why would they want to give you a percentage of the sales when they could just keep all of the money themselves” right?

Well, that’s a valid question, and we don’t like to run away from the tougher questions like most network marketers do. WE like to tackle them head on and clear up any misconceptions.

The main ingredient to success in Network Marketing is simple…it’s LEVERAGE!

In a nutshell, no matter how darn smart you are, now matter how great you are at sales, or how much energy you have, you’re still constrained by the same amount of hours per day. I like to hear when people call it the “great equalizer” because it truly is.

But when you sponsor people into your downline, then you’re actually utilizing not only your 24 hours, but you’re also utilizing theirs. That’s the main reason for “sponsoring” in network marketing. It’s massive leverage.

Now you may be asking yourself then if these products are so great, then why doesn’t the company just put them out in the market, and sell them that way. Of course I’ve heard this a lot as a network marketing professional for the past 20 years as well, and it always makes me sort of smile.

First of all, let’s look at advertising and how it works.

When a company advertises their products via commercials, radio ads, newspaper ads, etc. it costs them from hundreds of thousands of dollars to very easily millions of dollars…UPFRONT!

But, when you have a sales force of distributors marketing your products all over the world, through the greatest advertising in the world…word of mouth…and you add in a way for people to actually get a commission for selling those services…then you’re paying your advertising AFTER the FACT! It’s a genius model for any company.

If you’ve ever tried muscling your way into a crowded marketplace, even when you DO have the best product in the world, with general untrackable advertising alone, then you know how difficult that can truly be.

Another Important Reason that Sponsoring in MLM is Crucial to Your Financial Health…

Whether you have a traditional 9 to 5 job, or you own your own brick and mortar business, then you know that YOU have to be there every day no matter what, or else you’re going to lose money.

There’s no vacations, there’s no being able to actually get sick and recover, you have to be there.

But when you have a downline of thousands of people, when you have a network of people with the goal of selling products for you and your team, then suddenly getting sick, or taking a vacation isn’t such a big deal. In fact, it’s recommended once you’ve built your business. (Well not the getting sick part of course).

The key is teaching your downline to be successful in all the correct way, which means being a good sponsor, and creating duplication in your business. Having a successful downline helps both you and them live happier and healthier lives.

Sponsoring in network marketing is truly a great and powerful concept… too bad it’s so little understood even after all of these years.

The Power of Leadership

Why would I ask that question?

Well there are actually two important reasons why.

First I would like to get you to ask that question of yourself. It’s an important question you know?

It could mean the difference between success and failure in a lot of areas of your life believe it or not.

Even if you weren’t a network marketer (which hopefully you are)…then it could mean whether or not you excel at work, how effective you are as a parent, how well you do out in the dating world, and even how much influence you have in your group of friends.

It’s the difference in whether or not people look up to you, or back to you to make sure you’re still there. It could even mean the difference between life and death in a survival situation.

But learning the skills to become a great leader definitely means whether or not you’re a heavy hitter in MLM or just another number in someone else’s downline.

More importantly, rather than just asking yourself if you’re a leader or follower, I would like you to think about ways that you’re a leader. Or think about the ways that you’re a follower, and then think of ways where next time you can turn that around and fall more into the leadership role.

Why do I ask you to take it that one step further and think about specific ways? It’s because if you do that then you’re going to be more honest with yourself. You see, in life we tend to lie to ourselves – about ourselves sometimes…so as not to bruise our ego’s I suppose…and when we think in terms of specifics it gives your mind very little room to appease itself.

If you’ve decided that your leadership skills can use a bit of work, then you would be doing yourself the greatest favor of your life to study and learn how to be the leader that you know that you should be!

The other reason that you want to make sure that you’re a leader is because it’s much easier to find a mentor that will lead you to success if you are, believe it or not.

Now you would think that you need to find a mentor to show you how to become a better leader right? This is true, and you should seek out mentors for that stage of the game even if it means studying other leaders and modeling their behavior.

But the fact is that once you have leadership skills then a whole new world of opportunity opens up to you, and that means that people who wouldn’t normally work with you will. You see there are many people in this world, myself included, who really don’t have the time to drag people through the race, much less the finish line.

I will take the time to push you, coach you, and prod you along the way, but I would expect that by the time we were three quarters of the way through the race, that you would take it upon yourself to finish the job.

These are the people that my wife Ann and I work with solely. And these are the people who very often go on to make thousands their first month out of the gate, because they have the confidence in their leadership skills to go out and do what we tell them.

They’re not hiding behind their computer screens hoping for the miracle of easy and fast money, or trying to make thousands off of their “funded proposals” rather than their network marketing business.

If you’re a leader, if you fall into that category, then you’re the type of person that we want to work with. And we’re the type of network marketing professionals that can mentor you to where you want to be.

I hope that you’ll assess your leadership skills and go on to do the great things with those skills that you clearly deserve.

We all realized that with David’s gourmet cooking, we had all really packed on the pounds … YUCK … ok time for change … got to rally the tribe and set some new ground rules and hold each other accountable. Nothing like a tribal plan & commitment to get the juices flowing…

My intentions were good at the beginning as I led the tribe down the stairs to the gym and David took responsibility for the cooking and setting a new meal plan … Mark had no choice but to give in to the program … and we began to see big time results as 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60+ pounds melted away … a total of 149 pounds between the 3 of us so far!

However, after all the hoopla, I found myself back to procrastinating and rationalizing on all the other things I could be doing early in the morning even though Mark & David held their ground and were becoming global “poster boys” with our program!

I knew I had to come up with “SOMETHING FAST” to make it FUN for me again since I wanted to stay in the game long-term … what to do?

So I thought “I need a workout partner who would be willing to get up each morning with me … who would show up every day without any whining, bitching or any stupid excuse that would take me off my plan”

At a recent national event, I was asked to give my best tips in 15 minutes on “How to Invite & Prospect”.

Upon reflection, I remembered the wise advise given to me by my mother, a very successful realtor. She said: “Ann, people will think you are smarter, if you look like you are put together!”

Hmmmm …

Honestly, she is one of “those naturals” who can strike up a conversation with anyone. Sometimes, I just sit back in total amazement & watch her in action … even the time I took her to the emergency room after twisting her ankle, I saw her make friends with everyone in the emergency room, exchange cards and even get the phone number of the ER doctor who examined her foot! She is totally fearless & friendly in her approach … always prepared with a huge smile & radiant confidence.
