Have you ever been in this situation or one close to it?
You’re in a grocery store, or at the bank, and in line you happen to overhear someone talking, and something that they say makes you think that they’re probably a very good candidate and would be very open to your MLM business?
But… instead of telling the person that you have something that they may be interested in you do nothing. You clam up and never even say a word to them?
That’s a very frustrating situation to be in, because it’s very discouraging. It’s called approach anxiety and it’s one of the most inhibiting things that can happen to you.
Of course if you’re doing things right, and following along with Ann and David Feinstein’s proven Agel training, then you’ve got people coming to you about your MLM business, so it’s not like you’re hurting for prospects and leads. But still, it’s nice to be able to offer someone who you think would and could use your opportunity that chance.
So here are a few tips to get you to where next time you have no problem sharing your opportunity. And here’s the best part…

You may laugh but these are people who literally study social behavior and do it out in the field, so they know how to open up a conversation. They also are probably pretty good at closing the deal, but that’s topic for another blog J
Okay, so here’s the first one that makes total sense.
You’ve heard about the dreaded outdated and nerdy 3 Foot Rule…but we’re going to change that right now and talk about the “3 Second Rule”. The 3 foot rule is ineffective and makes people hate you, the 3 Second Rule is effective and makes people join you.
Pick-up artists get approach anxiety as well, and the 3 Second Rule is something that they’ve come up with to combat that. It just means that when they walk into a club or bar, or any sort of setting, as soon as they see a girl that they think they are interested in, then they’ll get over there and talk to her within 3 seconds. Why?
Because this gives their mind no time to start thinking of all of the reasons why they shouldn’t approach this girl! It’s the same when you’re about to approach someone about your MLM business. You hear or see someone that you think would be an ideal candidate, and what happens.
That’s right, you start thinking of all the reasons why you shouldn’t approach this person!
Your mind begins to race. You think:
- “Awe they look like they’re already successful, they don’t need this”,
- “They’re going to laugh in my face”,
- “They’ve probably already heard of network marketing and think it’s stupid”
- “They’re going to think I’m trying to scam them”
- “If I talk to them, someone else around might hear me”
- The list goes on and on…
But what if you squashed all of these destructive thoughts before they even gotten time to creep into your mind?
What if as soon as you caught a whiff of some reason, some intuitive instinct that this person may very well be a great candidate for your business opportunity, you went right up to that person, handed them a sample of your Agel Gel Pack (or whatever your company product is), gave them a business card, and told them that they sound like someone that might do very well at what you’re doing very well at.
That’s the 3 Second Rule, and the fact is that if you start using it you’ll see that it works tremendously. Why? Well at the very least the law of averages alone will be in your favor.
You’ll be talking to more people, and therefore have more chances at finding someone interested.
Next time we continue with this series we’ll steal some more techniques from the pick-up artists about how to make people way more interested in what you’re saying, even if you dress funny, you are out of shape, and smell bad (ok, maybe not smell bad but we’ll see!)
